Overview
FrugalText collects the minimum data we need to sell you a textbook, ship it, accept a rental back, and stay in touch about your order. We do not sell your data to third parties and we do not run ads against your reading history.
This policy explains exactly which fields we collect, how we use them, who we share them with (hint: the shipping carrier, the payment processor, and almost nobody else), and how to access or delete your data.
Data We Collect
We collect three categories of data: account data (name, email, password hash, optional phone and law school), order data (shipping address, billing address, items purchased or rented, rental due dates, return events), and technical data (IP address, device and browser type, referring page, pages viewed). Technical data is collected via standard server logs and first-party analytics; we do not use third-party ad pixels.
Card numbers are tokenised by our payment processor (Stripe) at the point of entry and never touch our servers. We store only the last four digits of the card and its expiry month so you can recognise it on your account and receipts.
We use a small number of first-party cookies for login session, cart persistence, and anti-fraud. No third-party advertising cookies. A full cookie list is available on request at info@frugaltext.com.
How We Use Data
Account data powers login and account recovery. Order data is used to fulfil your order, issue receipts, and manage rental returns. Technical data is used for security, fraud detection, and understanding which pages students find helpful so we can improve them.
We send transactional email only by default - order confirmations, shipping updates, return reminders, and password resets. Marketing email is strictly opt-in at checkout, and every marketing email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
Sharing & Third Parties
The only third parties that receive any of your data are the ones we need to ship your book and process your payment: our shipping carriers (USPS and UPS), Stripe for card processing, our hosting provider (WordPress.com / Automattic) for site delivery, our transactional email provider for order-related email, and our accounting system for bookkeeping.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics resellers. If a legal process (subpoena or court order) requires us to produce records, we will tell you first unless the order forbids us from doing so.
Your Rights
You can view and edit your account information at any time from your account dashboard. You can request a full export of your data (account, orders, rental history) and we will deliver it in a machine-readable file within 30 days. You can request deletion of your account; once cleared of outstanding rentals, we will purge all identifying data except bookkeeping records we are legally required to retain.
