Rental Policy

Here's how FrugalText rentals work - what your rental includes, how returns happen, what late fees look like, and what to do if something goes wrong. Plain English, no surprises.

Overview

How FrugalText rentals work

Renting eliminates the expense of buying a book you'll only use for one semester and likely never open again.

Every rental comes with a prepaid return label, a grace period before late fees apply, and direct email support from a real person if any issues arise. This policy outlines each of these details with the clarity and thoroughness law students expect.

Rental Period

Your rental window

FrugalText rentals run for the full academic semester. At checkout, your rental is tied to the current semester's return deadline, which we set in advance (for example, Fall 2026 rentals are due December 26, 2026). Your exact due date is shown in your order confirmation email, in the order summary at checkout, and in your account dashboard at every login.

The rental clock is tied to the semester deadline, not the day your book arrives. You can place a rental order at any point during the semester and your due date remains the same published return date for that term.

Late Fees

When late fees begin

We know exam weeks get chaotic. Every rental includes a seven-day grace period after the semester return deadline before any late fee is charged. If your return ships within those seven days, no fee is charged. The carrier's scan date is what matters, not the arrival date.

After the grace period, a weekly late fee of roughly 10 percent of the book's Brand New purchase price is charged to the payment method you saved at checkout. Fees continue weekly for up to ten weeks, capped at the book's full replacement cost. You will never pay more in late fees than the book costs. We email a reminder 48 hours before the first charge, and daily fees stop the day the carrier scans your return.

Common Questions

Answers to the usual questions.

  1. How long until I get my quote?

We reply within 2 business days, often sooner. If your email arrives on a weekend, expect a reply by end of day Tuesday.

  2. What conditions do you accept?

Acceptable, Good, Very Good, and Brand New. Writing, highlighting, and minor wear are fine. Missing pages, water damage, or a broken spine usually disqualify a book.

  3. What if my book is in poor condition?

Send it anyway with an accurate condition note. We will quote what we can pay and tell you honestly if a book is not resellable.

  4. What if my ISBN is not in your system?

Enter the ISBN and a short title note. A real person reviews every quote, so we can handle unlisted titles that still have market demand.

  5. How do I get paid?

Zelle, Venmo, or PayPal. Payment goes out 3-5 business days after we confirm your shipment was received and the books match the quote.

  6. How much does it cost to ship?

Nothing. We email a prepaid shipping label once you accept the quote. Drop the box at any authorized carrier location.

  7. Can I sell old editions?

Yes, within a reasonable range. Editions that are one or two behind current usually have value. Very old editions are quoted case by case.

  8. Do you accept non-law textbooks?

Not at this time. FrugalText is a law-textbook specialist, so our quotes reflect the law-student market. Refer non-law titles to a general buyback service.
